How should I layout a postcard for mailing?
The USPS places restrictions on the size and location of addresses and other content on the mailing side of a postcard. The rules are complex because there are several different sets of rules that can be used to produce acceptable layouts. The following guidelines will produce an acceptable layout for a 4x6 postcard:
- Use the 1.5 x 1.25 inches (width x height) in the top right corner only for the stamp or indicia.
- Leave an empty space at least 4.75 x 0.625 inches (width x height) anchored at the bottom right for the Bar Code.
- Use a space of at least 2.75 x 1.625 inches only for the address. The address space must be just above the bar code area and on the far right.
- No address may be placed in your "content area" to the left of the address space. Use the top left of the card to include your return address or any other address that you want to include on your layout.
